Online shopping during the coronavirus years

Tips for your online presence

The unpredictable evolution of the coronavirus outbreak on a global level quickly created a domino effect, dragging the entire international economy and trade into its vortex. The last fortress that was to remain impregnable was that of e-commerce, which confirms in every way the need for businesses for online presence, as well as for a structured and robust digital marketing strategy.

The first surveys by the Greek eCommerce Association (GR.EC.A.) in collaboration with BestPrice, Google & Skroutz, report that the increase in spending by Greeks on online stores ranges weekly at a rate of 134%, compared to the same week in 2019. According to the research, it appears that Greeks are increasing online sales from March in hundreds of categories related to in-house activities, such as Entertainment (+433%), Sports and Hobby (+129%), and teleworking activities (web cameras +1,256%) or distance learning (children’s items +118%). In the critical period before the start of the quarantine (March 2-8), online traffic skyrocketed in e-commerce categories, while traffic to physical stores of commerce or entertainment showed a sharp decline of up to -85%.

The Greek consumer seems to show an increasing interest in online shopping, recording an increase even in the fashion category, which shows signs of recovery with a 4% increase in online traffic during the Easter shopping period. This is the first time such a thorough study of e-commerce activity in our country has been recorded, providing us with very interesting data on the overall challenges that Greek entrepreneurship faces and the need to strengthen online tools and methods.

The way this new crisis is being addressed is something that is being studied carefully and will concern us in the coming period.

However, what a brand can do to safeguard its online presence is to follow some basic guidelines:

  • Adjust your main message
Propose to your audience new ways of renewal, positive engagement, entertainment, and satisfaction, adjusting your content accordingly. Who wouldn’t feel a little better by refreshing their appearance or space in a state of confinement and quarantine?
  • Show that you are fully informed
75% of online stores display a message related to the coronavirus. In this way, stores inform, advise, and share their own experience regarding the new reality.
  • Adopt a delivery and product return service
The contactless transaction policy and any form of safe product delivery to homes is a sign of trust from the public towards the business.
  • Ensure to provide a detailed view of your products online
Make sure that your product descriptions are detailed, and that the photos or designs help your audience understand the real picture.
  • Serve with “face-to-face” online interaction
Human contact is what is missing and creates anxiety, loneliness, and sadness in the days we live. Try in every way to communicate warmly and humanly with anyone who needs human contact.

In any case, what remains constant is the fact that nothing is stable.

The volatility of the new reality due to the coronavirus is something that every entrepreneur must face with flexibility and planning.

We would be happy to help you face the new challenge together!

STAY IN YOUR EGGS AND FACE QUARANTINE… STRATEGICALLY!

The real-time marketing campaign of Avga Tsakiris during a health crisis.

The spring of 2020 will remain in everyone’s memory, as the global health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic found us immobilized at home in quarantine, with the market closed, strict restrictions on minimal outings, and a sense of fear looming about what was to come. Few companies managed to stay open, focusing on essential goods, one of which was the TsakirisFamily, which not only continued to supply its sales network uninterruptedly but was also preparing for Easter, the peak of its purchasing power, due to the Easter egg. A real-time marketing campaign was necessary.

On our part, we had to think about how to prepare the ground, addressing the negativity that had arisen. The margins were tight, the situation had to be handled with respect and delicate handling, without losing essential elements of its communication strategy, such as humor.

The central idea was adapted to the overall message #menoumespiti of the Ministry of Health and found application in all communication steps of the brand. The slogan “Stay in your eggs!” became the voice of Tsakiris Family aiming to combine information and encouragement for compliance with protective measures, with entertainment.

Initially, it was branded and added to every communication point during this period. It became a series of thematic posts on social media and part of the communication for the company’s Easter television spot. The audience of Tsakiris Family heard “Stay in your eggs!”, participated in the contest on Facebook, and uploaded their recipe to the egg recipe challenge on Instagram. Then, “Stay in your eggs!” became the voice of “Spitaki”, a persona that… stayed home (My home… My Spitaki) and advised us on how to spend creative time during quarantine, provided instructions for protection against the virus, and valuable nutritional information about eggs.

Subsequently, our communication turned to Easter, which was very different this year. We made “Easter as a family” and ensured that Tsakiris Easter eggs reached as many homes and tables as possible, through contests and CSR actions that generously gifted festive eggs to healthcare and safety professionals who were on the front lines of the battle against the coronavirus.

The result was positive, the audience’s response and interaction justified us, as they responded very well to our communication strategy, with increased engagement and reactions across all channels. The community embraced our strategy and the mission of Tsakiris Family was accomplished: We… stayed in our eggs and Tsakiris eggs accompanied us during the difficult hours of isolation!

Would you like us to stand by your side designing your business communication strategy for the upcoming period?

We would be happy to see your message: hello@vitaminmedia.gr

Viral Campaign: Faye K. Olympiou – Oly for the City!

Viral Campaign, municipal elections 2019: Faye K. Olympiou – Oly for the City!

How the graphic nature of the local elections and the overall spamming atmosphere from the candidate municipal councilors can inspire the creation of the most viral campaign of the year? The Vitamin Media, taking advantage of the pre-election campaign of the local elections, found fertile ground for the implementation of the most creative campaign of the year aimed at informing and educating the public regarding fake news, managing through this, the presentation of a case study project with a strong dose of humor.

The central idea was to create a spoof pre-election campaign, a fictional candidate for the municipal elections! The starting point of the creative thought was – what else? – the plethora of eccentric -to say the least- campaigns of several candidates, some of which were discussed and spread precisely because of their eccentricity (either in terms of design or message). Our candidate was named Faye K. Olympiou, while her central slogan was defined as “Oly For The City”. Although her name and the initial of her middle name indirectly referred to the nature of the candidacy (read as fake) and the positions she expressed were at least exaggerated, the graphic approach referred to a candidacy that could convince the average user of its validity (a fact that is evidenced by the results, the comments and reactions of the people).

The main goal was to implement an online viral campaign aimed at informing and educating the public regarding fake news, with a primary focus on social media. Its timing would coincide with that of the pre-election campaign for the local elections, and for this reason, it would need to embody the spirit of the contest while also standing out from the clutter of messages from hundreds -even thousands- of candidate mayors and councilors. Using the theme of the (fake pre-election campaign) the relevant audience was approached – residents of Thessaloniki over 18 years old, thus potentially voters in the upcoming municipal elections.

To achieve the goal, a microsite was created (www.ogtp.gr), while the main promotional tool was Facebook and complementarily Instagram. A Facebook Page was created (Faye K. Olympiou – Oly for the city), as well as the Instagram account (@ogtp.gr).

The result of the above effort was a viral campaign, as beyond the countless comments and buzz on social media, we saw mentions in several of the largest media in the country and Northern Greece, as well as in many industry media (advertising.gr / marketingweek.gr / publishitmagasine.gr / gazzeta.gr / makthes.gr / voria.gr / typosthes.gr / seleo.gr / vimapress.gr / metrosport.gr / tvopen.gr / mycampus.gr / pagenews.gr / and many more)

Faye K. Olympiou was even invited to one of the largest television channels in the country:

A candidate caught our attention… And she had it!
Faye K. Olympiou. Woman, working, candidate.
Her central slogan, Oly For The City!

Her main goal was to inform and educate the public regarding fake news. Alongside her, thousands of citizens commented, applauded, criticized, or shared her literally fantastic positions. Because many believed she was real. And quite a few hoped she would be…

Online stores more necessary than ever

From the interview with Nikos Parcharidis, digital marketer and CEO of Vitamin Media at the Athens-Macedonian News Agency / FM 104.9 and the show “First Good Evening” with journalist Varvara Kazantzi.

In the aftermath of the pandemic that brought a second lockdown to our country within the same year, trade maintains its existence and transforms into ecommerce for modern needs.

Maintaining an eshop is the only outlet for traders, and indeed the need is directing even small shops down this path at the last moment. Even local markets are rushing to invest in the creation of online stores as this will help them recover by receiving support from the local community, but it will also open up to a larger market, nationwide.

Creating an eshop is a dynamic process, in which the entrepreneur and the company are involved with significant requirements for good cooperation, so that there is organization and flow. The entrepreneur must provide the information, the directions for the architecture and categorization, and organize the listings, price changes, etc. The company plays an active role, as it takes on technical support, organization and implementation of content and imagery, consulting, training of the entrepreneur, as well as advertising, producing promotional research, and whatever is needed for each sector.

With the need for merchants to “open up” to ecommerce, the question of how quickly an online store can be set up is reasonable. One month could be a realistic scenario, considering the coordinated management of the involved sectors such as banks, courier companies. However, both the implementation time and the cost vary depending on the requirements and ambitions of each entrepreneur.

If 2020 should teach us anything in terms of marketing, it is the need to invest in ecommerce and digital marketing. The journey so far has shown that entrepreneurs’ interest in online shopping, digital promotional actions and campaigns is increasing. This is certainly an investment that will be needed in the future, as the consumer public has become accustomed to online shopping, which leads to an increase in online sales.

Real-time marketing: the power and impact it has on advertising

Research by Ierax Analytix for Vitamin Media

“Research is creating new knowledge” – Neil Armstrong
You don’t need to be an astronaut to seek in-depth knowledge and conduct thorough research to shed light on your own inquiries and questions. After all, the world of digital marketing is vast like another universe and complex like a labyrinth, where theory and application are judged on a case-by-case basis.

Always carefully examining the trends in digital marketing, we focused our attention this time on real-time marketing, the power and impact it has on advertising. Thus, in collaboration with Ierax Analytix – which we chose for its prestige and effectiveness – we conducted an online survey during October – November 2020, in which 940 men and women participated nationwide.

The results captured our interest in a multi-layered way, confirming that real-time marketing actions certainly resonate with the general public, as they incorporate current events into their character, while having a significant impact on advertising, since a large percentage of the audience recognizes and seeks them out.

Let’s refer to the statistical results that the research led us to:

Initially, it seems that the power of marketing today is recognized by the public, as 87% responded positively. In fact, among younger age groups (<33), this percentage reaches 92%.

The opinion of the public that the connection of current events in advertising is very or quite important is also high (83%), with these percentages reaching 88% in the 23-26 age group, while 91% in the 27-33 age group. However, regarding real-time marketing, the percentage of those who react or comment on such actions is quite balanced. (47% yes and 53% no)

Another aspect that concerned us is the topic of these actions. Regarding the themes, those that capture the public’s interest are: 69% social, 63% entertainment, 40% artistic, 17% political, 3% other.

But what about the creator, the brand behind the promotional actions through real-time marketing? 57% remember the actions, as well as the production company behind them, while 33% remember them without noticing the company behind them.

Finally, among the public, 49% recognize the term “real-time marketing” when it comes to actions that use current events to go viral.

At Vitamin Media, real-time actions keep us alert, inspire us, and captivate us. That’s why we seek them out, target them, and implement them for ourselves and our partners. By conducting a more thorough research, in collaboration with Ierax Analytix, we obtained valuable data that enhances our interest in real-time marketing, confirms it, and shows that the audience is activated by seeing moments of current events in advertising.

Marmaridis Furniture: The Revive Project

The invitation became a challenge, and in a short period of time, we managed to give a “new breath” to one of the largest Greek brands in the furniture sector.

Although “Marmaridis Furniture” has been in the Greek market since 1955, it failed in previous years to differentiate itself from the competition, mainly because it did not rely on a comprehensive marketing strategy. The company’s promotion was limited to brand awareness moves with TV spots and outdoor advertising, but without the desired results. At the same time, other companies in the industry began to build new strategic methods, placing greater emphasis on their digital image and e-commerce.

However, the current image of the company is far from that of previous years as a whole. This changed through targeted 360o digital marketing services, which were implemented in order to achieve the commercial goals of the business.

360o Digital Marketing

At Vitamin Media, we analyzed the market and the competition, understood the needs and goals of the brand, and developed a new strategy based on the 6 hierarchical stages of Marketing: Awareness → Knowledge → Liking → Preference → Conviction → Purchase. Thus, we tried to approach the brand’s values and redefine its position in the market and the dynamics it projects.

In the first phase, we conducted market research in Athens and Thessaloniki, in collaboration with a well-known research company. We asked a large sample of the public with different geographical, social, and economic criteria, “What are the advantages and disadvantages of our customer, and what are their expectations from them?” The data that emerged became our vehicle for redefining the corporate profile, as well as for achieving a digital marketing plan, which we were called to implement over a year.

We took over the management of social media and completely improved the digital image of the brand, maintaining its color palette so that the consumer would not stray too far from the power of habit created by the image of a logo.

We created a social media calendar with interesting content for all members of the digital community. We developed a series of messages with a human-centered approach, in the logic of furniture selection, not only based on product cost but also as a basic choice for everyday life. The simplicity in presentation – regarding lines and typography – complements the delivery of the central message in a smart way, which has something to say, both in emotion and in decision-making. We included contests and interactive content in the calendar, maintaining the need for communication.

We improved community management and communication with members of the online community, responding daily to messages and comments. We created a new Instagram grid that transports the user in its way to a physical store, showcasing the vast range of options that the brand offers.

At the same time, we highlighted with individual campaigns the USPs and offerings of the brand that differentiate it from the competition.

We changed our social media paid strategy, implemented Remarketing and Google Ads Campaigns, reaching new consumers in every corner of the country, and started programmatic buying through DV360 in in-read articles.

Simultaneously, we improved the UX on the e-shop as well as the SEO, creating increasing purchasing power in all e-commerce activities.

We increased email communication with frequent newsletters, communicating new products and offers.

The above moves yielded the best possible ROI during the period when retail stores remained closed due to the pandemic.

The fully renewed image of the brand was communicated from the start with TVC and purchased time on the most popular shows of Greek television. Additionally, with printed material and in all 13 Marmaridis stores. Meanwhile, the CSR actions of the brand successfully framed its renewed image at a time when businesses are called to be more human-centered and close to the daily needs of each consumer.

What did we achieve?

This specific campaign, integrated and multichannel, managed to achieve all the long-term goals that were set.

  • Renewal of visual identity
  • Increase in social media communities +150%
  • Increase in online transactions +248%
  • Increase in online turnover +305%
  • Increase in new users +31%
  • Increase in conversion rate +143%
  • Total increase in turnover in 13 stores +40%

Every collaboration is a special challenge for us, but this specific campaign is a characteristic example of how a brand can be redefined, giving the audience the sense of its real transformation. Carefully carved steps, renewal of image, and highlighting comparative advantages helped in fulfilling these.

Stay Ahead.
